Creamy Green Detox Juice

Creamy Green Detox Juice in Glass

I'm a frequent smoothie and green juice maker, but my go-to recipe – greens, water, ginger, lemon, and apple – has been tasting a little stale lately. Compared to my old faithful, this creamy green detox juice is like a tropical getaway for my tastebuds. It's tangy and sweet, and loaded with plenty of staying power thanks to the avocado.

Last week, Clark and I [ok, it was mostly me] decided it would be a brilliant idea to go on a short pre-holiday juice cleanse. It would've probably made more sense to embark on this journey after Thanksgiving, but that's neither here nor there.

This particular juice cleanse is the brainchild of Jason Vale and it is the subject of his book,  7 lbs in 7 Days: The Juice Master Diet. While we didn't start out with the goal of losing weight, Vale definitely delivers on that promise with his program. More than anything, I recommend the cleanse for its overall health and digestion benefits.

I have my parents to thank for introducing me to this cleanse and as a result, this insanely tasty and definitely addictive juice. Two weeks ago, they completed a 7-Day [!!!] version of the same program that we followed. I tried a few of their juices and after seeing how much they liked the cleanse/how good they felt afterwards, I had to give it a go myself.

All of the juices in the program are, in my opinion, delicious. This recipe is one of the most frequently used and it also happens to be my favorite.

We shortened the cleanse to 3 days instead of the full 7 because A) we run a food blog so we need to make food and B) we might not have lasted more than 3 days because we love food.

For me, this juice cleanse was a really good experience. I won't lie, though; I was downright hangry for most of day 1 and day 2. But by day 3, I was feeling great – more energy, less cranky, less bloated, sleeping better, fewer cravings, more clear-headed.

I like to think that I eat mostly healthy. But in reality, it's easy to wind up a little off track sometimes, especially this time of year. Too many chocolate chip banana pancakes, too much wine, too many blue corn tortilla chips – you delicious, salty, crunchy bastards, you – and maybe too much pumpkin bread. This 3-day "reset," as I like to call it, was a great way to get back on track.  And cleanse or no cleanse, this green detox juice is going to be a regular around here from now on.
