5 Healthy Foods from India that are Heavenly Delicious

October 5, 2025 by thefitchen Leave a Comment

Indian cuisine is known to be one of the most authentic and delicious cuisines worldwide. Considering India’s huge centuries-old history, the people of this country surely know tons of tricks and secrets when it comes to cooking. However, with the variety of food choices and the fact that every dish is unique in its own way, tourists often worry about gaining weight from eating after visiting India.

Of course, it is normal to think that if you visit a country full of delicious foods, you will lose your physical shape, and yet be worried that if you do not try everything, you will not get the whole experience from the country’s cuisine. Lucky for you, Indian dishes consist of food that is incredibly healthy and nutritious. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about gaining weight while visiting. In this article, we will discuss 5 of the Indian healthy foods.

1. Lentil Dishes

Lentil dishes, known as Dal in Indian, are one of the most common foods that you will come across every day in India. Not only are lentils a great source of plant-based protein, but they are also known to bring luck. According to CasinosAnalyzer’s research, lentil dishes are especially common in entertainment venues like casinos, where the customers are 100% dependent on luck. Since guests often look for comforting yet healthy meals to maintain energy while playing, it’s one of the most commonly ordered foods.

Besides the protein, lentils are packed with fiber, and they are a great option to be included in healthy diets. They are also full of iron, potassium, folate, and complex carbohydrates, which help boost your energy. The best Indian lentil dishes to try are Toor Dal, Moong Dal, and Masoor Dal.

2. Chickpea Curry

If you’ve ever tried chickpea curry, you probably agree that Indian cuisine wouldn’t be complete without this dish. Chickpeas and the rich aroma of curry make an incredibly nutritious meal that easily satisfies hunger. It is a perfect comfort food, especially for the cold weather, with the addition of health benefits.

Just like lentils, chickpeas are one of the best plant-based protein sources. They are also high in fiber and help regulate blood sugar levels, along with supporting easy digestion. Another benefit is that chickpeas can be prepared quickly with vegetables like tomatoes and onions, plus the various Indian spices, so you can try preparing them at home as well.

3. Vegetable Curry

There are many variations of vegetable curry in India. These are wonderful examples of what Indian home-cooked meals look and taste like. They are full of fiber, vitamins, and the taste of fresh seasonal vegetables.

Good examples of vegetable curry are Okra Curry and Smoky Eggplant Mash. Both of these dishes provide vitamin C, fiber, and folate. In addition, they help improve the immune system. Spices like cumin, coriander, ginger, and, of course, curry, are the main characters of these dishes in terms of flavor.

4. Roti

Roti is India’s signature bread. It is a whole-wheat flat-shaped bread that can always be found on tables during Indian feasts or just any dinner. The only two ingredients are whole-wheat bread and water. They come out as a soft dough, which is later rolled into as thin circles as possible and cooked until they puff up.

Roti is full of protein and fiber, which are important for energy, muscle growth, and good digestion. They also help you be satisfied after eating and receive B vitamins, along with minerals.

5. Spinach Paneer

Spinach Paneer, also known as Saag Paneer, is considered one of the best comfort foods of India. It has a nice creamy texture and such a vibrant green colour that it immediately receives attention on the table. Spinach Paneer consists of pretty simple ingredients, and yet, it is absolutely majestic in taste and full of nutrients.

This dish provides the essential amino acids, which are important for muscle health. You can receive a huge amount of iron, which helps with blood circulation and anemia, vitamin K, folate, and antioxidants. Overall, you can easily integrate Spinach Paneer into your healthy diet as a great vegetarian food option.

Bottom Line

As unbelievable as it might seem, now you can see that Indian cuisine is full of dishes that are incredibly healthy, nutritious, and very beneficial to your health. They can also fit into diverse diets, and yet, you will not miss out on trying the most important Indian dishes and feeling the authentic taste and flavors.

So if you are visiting India and worried about gaining weight, or you would just like to expand your dietary and healthy food options, these 5 foods cooked in the Indian way will definitely help you out.
