Sesame Garlic Grilled Mushrooms

More grilled mushrooms!

Remember the last grilled mushroom recipe we posted?

Those beautiful bellas all stuffed with sun dried tomatoes, herbs, and goat cheese? Those are the BOMB.

But if you're looking for something a little quicker to prep or without goat cheese, these sesame garlic grilled mushrooms are perfect for you.

We love making grilled mushrooms because they cook so quickly and they're unfussy.

You can add them onto the grill when everything else is almost finished, rotate them once, and they're done in just a few minutes.

The marinade gives them the best crispy, caramelized exterior and keeps the mushrooms nice and tender.

Tips for Making Sesame Garlic Grilled Mushrooms

  1. If you're using wooden/bamboo skewers, be sure to soak them in water for a few minutes. This helps to prevent them from getting burnt.
  2. Mix up your marinade in a gallon ziplock bag, then add the mushrooms and gently rotate the bag a few times. Make sure they're thoroughly coated with marinade.
  3. Press all of the air out of the bag then store in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. This helps the mushrooms to soften so they aren't as likely to break apart when skewering them.
  4. Skewer them, place them directly onto the grate, and don't overcook them.

That's it! It's that simple. We've been making these A TON this summer. A) because they're freaking tasty and B) because it's been almost impossible to find sweet corn this year (which is arguably our favorite side to grill). These are a damn good substitute though, so I can't complain too much.

Description

This sesame garlic grilled mushrooms recipe is a flavor packed side dish that pairs perfectly with so many grilled dishes! It's super easy to prep and it only takes a few minutes on the grill to cook.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 - 8 oz. packages baby bella mushrooms, stems removed
  • ¼ cup soy sauce, or tamari if gluten free
  • ¼ cup honey, or maple syrup if vegan
  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon ginger powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mushrooms. Wash thoroughly, then chop into halves or quarters. If your baby bellas are on the large side, I recommend chopping into quarters.
  2. In a large ziplock bag, combine soy sauce, honey, olive oil, lemon juice, ginger powder, pepper, and garlic. Shake the bag up to combine well, then add the chopped mushrooms. Gently rotate the bag to coat the mushrooms, then press out as much air as possible.
  3. Refrigerate for 30 minutes prior to skewering.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high.
  5. Skewer the mushrooms, then place the skewers directly onto the grill grates. Cook 8 minutes, rotating once at the halfway point. Remove from the grill and enjoy!
