5 Healthy Eating Habits for Busy Writers

January 23, 2025 by cookingtim Leave a Comment

While writing is a mentally stimulating activity, physically it’s the same, as it requires sitting at a desk for many hours. This makes nutrition a top priority for them.

However, if you’re like most writers, chances are that you’re so absorbed in your work that you rarely have enough time to take care of your eating habits. Unfortunately, sitting all day can lead to low energy levels, unhealthy cravings, and terrible eating habits.

To save your health and perform better at your job, these are the 5 eating habits you should keep in mind for staying healthy and keeping your energy full throughout the day.

1. Never Skip Breakfast

Breakfast

Skipping breakfast has become the new normal. Okay, we’re not talking about people who do intermittent fasting. But many people just don’t have time in the morning to get prepared for work and as a result, they sacrifice their nutritional needs and skip breakfast.

Writers are among those people. As a writer, your brain is your biggest asset, and skipping the first meal of the day will lower your energy levels. At one point, it determines your mood and productivity throughout the day. This is why most of the time busy writers are out of energy, which makes it hard for their brains to function.

Instead of skipping the most important meal of the day, you might even think about simplifying other tasks in your life to free up more time with the help of online tools like https://www.customwritings.com. This will reduce your workload and give you more time to start your day with a nutritious breakfast.

2. Always Keep a Water Bottle Along

Water Bottles

You’ve probably heard how important it is for your health and wellness to drink enough water. Water usually helps with hunger and improves energy levels, as well as digestion. It also helps to prevent certain diseases and infections and keeps your whole system healthy.

But here’s one thing you should be aware of: as a writer, it’s best not to drink water between meals, as it might make you feel uncomfortable. Ideally, you should drink it 20-30 minutes before the meal and an hour after the meal to make sure you’re going to have proper digestion.

This is why it would be a great decision to always take your water bottle with you at work while you’re brainstorming ideas to write.

3. Swap Snacks with Fruits

Fruits

If you’re addicted to junk food and sweets with processed sugar, it only makes sense that you don’t have the energy to get through the day, especially as a busy writer.

The thing is that snacks with high sugar levels contain saturated fats, which makes them poor in nutritional value. If eating unhealthy snacks is your habit, chances are that your body will crash and you won’t be able to finish your assignments properly.

The better and healthier way to receive the necessary sugar is to switch your sugary snacks to fruits and fruit salads. They contain iron and important vitamins, which help your body function properly. Plus, fruits are a natural source of sugar and are more satisfying than processed sweet snacks, so you’ll be sure to get the needed energy.

4. Space Meals Equally

Eating frequently with solid intervals is the key to staying hydrated and satisfied the entire day. Very often people just eat a big lunch or breakfast and stop eating for 3-4 hours, which is a horrible habit and destroys most of their energy.

To stay full of energy and be productive as you do incredible work for your writing, it is crucial to eat small portions a few times a day and make intervals in between. This way your stomach will be filled and you will be at more ease when you’re brainstorming new ideas or editing drafts.

5. No Dinner After 8 PM

Finally, if late-night writing sessions are familiar to you, chances are that you’re also familiar with late-night snacking. But this is a big mistake.

Not having dinner after 8 PM is a perfect choice if you want to sleep well at night, as sleeping is one of the key factors to having energy the next day. It is also a wise choice to prevent gaining weight and improve digestion.

A simple light meal before 8 PM will help your body make time to detoxify and also improve your blood sugar levels. This is not to mention that starting the next day without feeling sluggish from a late meal might encourage healthier food choices.

Bottom Line

Now you know that even if you’re a busy writer, there are plenty of ways to make healthy nutrition choices. Yes, it’s not easy to quickly wrap up your schedule around new routines. Nevertheless, nothing stands in the way of trying and attempting to improve yourself and your behaviors. Doing those 5 things can definitely change you positively and give you just the right amount of energy to be excellent at your job.
