Winter is perfect for entertaining, right? I always wanted to make a drink that will be a real showstopper for your winter feast or get together. So I decided to make the ultimate bulletproof hot chocolate.
A guilt-free drink which can be enjoyed with family and friends during the chilly weather.
I just love the aroma of the homemade hot chocolate. Enjoy a very elegant, intense in flavor aroma because of the presence of both chocolate pieces and cocoa powder.
It’s all about throwing some simple ingredients in your saucepan, whisking it up a little and there you go, your bulletproof hot chocolate is done.
Simple and easy, but also so much healthier than the store-bought variety.
The bulletproof hot chocolate can be made within 10 minutes and enjoyed with many different toppings.
While the traditional and un-healthy hot chocolate has tons of cream and lots of sweetened chocolate, mine is a skimmed version and a lot healthier, with ingredients that are good for your body and well-being.
Starting things off with almond milk. I always, want to give you suggestions when cooking up a recipe so you can have alternatives to use if you don’t have an ingredient in your home right at the moment.
So, you could use coconut milk or even oat milk will work perfectly fine, giving an earthy flavor to your hot chocolate.
Let’s talk about the chocolate.
I wanted to make a combination of chocolate and cocoa powder because I found it gives such a rich and decadent flavor you can’t find in the storebought chocolate milk.
I use dark unprocessed cocoa powder (dutch cocoa powder is perfectly fine here) and also unsweetened chocolate.
You can use chocolate bars, chocolate chips, the choice is yours, but it needs to be unsweetened and with high amount of cocoa solids in it.
Mine is 82%. The higher cocoa solids, the richer and depth flavor you are going to have in your little mug.
If you thought enough of chocolate, here comes the instant coffee. A tiny bit is enough to get that rich flavor.
Coffee in small amounts like here will just richen the chocolate flavor, so you don’t worry about any coffee flavor in your hot chocolate.
You won’t feel a hint in it. But, what you will feel a hint of is the ground cinnamon.
It’s not only goes well with the chocolate and almond milk together, but also gives so much aroma and flavor to this recipe.
I always tend to put vanilla extract in every sweet recipe for maximum flavor.
I do love my hot chocolate without any sweetener because I want to enjoy the simple chocolate in-depth flavor. If you are on the sweeter side, I will suggest to use honey, maple syrup or stevia as healthy alternatives of granulated sugar.
Now, when everything is in the pot, it's time to warm it up on the stove. I like mine very hot, so 'i cook it to almost boiling point. Then, I serve it in my favourite hot chocolate mug.
The most fun part and most sinful in this recipe is the whipped cream. You can alternatively use aqua faba whipped until soft peaks and dollop on top of your mug, but because I didn’t had one in my kitchen, I decided to use heavy whipping cream to top everything and finally garnish it with almond flakes.
A crunchy finish is always a great idea. If you don’t have almond flakes, use a tiny sprinkle of ground cinnamon will work perfectly fine.
There you have it guys, bulletproof hot chocolate perfect for entertaining and can be ready in less than 10 minutes. Enjoy your winter days with this delicious yet healthy treat.
