I have to confess, I am obsessed with cauliflower these days!
Cauliflower can be used in many ways and as a substitute for many ingredients. Use it instead of potatoes, hummus or turn it into pizza crust. So many creative ways to explore with this versatile vegetable.
Cauliflower is also a good alternative to rice, especially when you want your dish to be light and healthy. That's when this cauliflower rice stir fry comes into play!
People around the world prefer to follow the trend of a low-carbohydrate diet.
Usually, low-carb products on the market are relatively expensive.
You can make your own low-carb rice with very simple and cheap Ingredients
For example, this cauliflower rice stir fry. The recipe is super simple and easy to follow.
This cauliflower rice stir fry looks and tastes exactly like fried rice.
If you are on a low carb diet or if you simply try to get a healthy dish on the dinner table for the kids or the whole family, this is your dish to try!
In addition, it is super easy and takes no time to make at all!
I know, we all need and prefer our carbs loaded meals, because it's just so tasty.
But believe me this cauliflower stir fry makes you think that you are actually eating rice.
When I first started to make this dish a couple of years ago for my family, they didn't even realize they were eating cauliflower!
If you love fried rice but need to watch after your carbs and calories, that's your dish to go.
I don't necessarily eat cauliflower rice because I need a low-carb diet, but simply because it tastes better that way. The slightly seared cauliflower gives the dish a slightly nutty taste that usually goes very well with all recipes. By the way, it's much faster to cook than normal rice.
But to make this vegetable outstanding in its taste, you have to make it right and know the secrets of a perfect cauliflower stir fry.
The secret is to not overcook the cauliflower, keep it with a good bite otherwise it will be too mushy. Another secret of mine is to chop or grate the cauliflower by hand to get the perfect sized texture. If you want to use a food processor, please make sure not to over process the cauliflower.
If your cauliflower is properly prepared like in my recipe, the taste will be nutty and delicious, almost addictive.
To make cauliflower rice is simple and fast. Because all you need is a head of cauliflower, then wash and chop the florets into small, rice-like pieces.
Cauliflower is great in absorbing seasonings, so don't be shy to use a good amount of soja sauce, garlic and dried oregano!
Also, you can refrigerate leftovers of cauliflower fried rice for up to 2 days. It won’t get soggy.
My favorite way to eat this dish is for breakfast, because it's just so easy to make and nutritious. Exactly what you need in the morning.
Back in the days, when I was a more picky person, cauliflower hardly made it to my dining table. It was just uninteresting and not much value for me.
Until I grew up. I started to discover more healthy vegetables in the garden and was more open to trying all kinds of vegetables.
The other day I got inspired by a nearby farmers market. The Vendor actually recommended to buy a bunch of cauliflower florets and just throw them in the oven tossed with some olive oil and sea salt. It was a real comfort food.
But there are so many ways to enjoy your cauliflower. My mother loves them baked as a gratin for a sunday evening, my father loves them rather as a winter warmed soup with some olive oil on top.
In autumn, when it's harvest time for cauliflower, you can find organic and healthy looking cauliflower heads that reach almost record-breaking proportions!
If you like your cauliflower dish to be more fancy, pick up some of those green, orange or even purple colored Cauliflower heads in the market.
One or two heads are more than enough for the whole family. If you can't finish the whole cauliflower simply freeze the cauliflower florets while they are still raw.
The next time you plan to cook a cauliflower rice stir fry, just defrost the pack and use it right away.
Cauliflower is a member of the brassica family and has impressive health benefits. Low in fat, high in fiber, vitamin c and vitamin B6. It provides antioxidants and phytonutrients that can protect against cancer diseases. It also contains fiber to enhance weight loss and digestion and many important nutrients.
As more and more people are aware of a healthy diet and adopt to gluten free and low carb diets, also a large number of companies are following the trend by using vegetables to replace flour and even rice. Cauliflower is mild in flavor and is being used in a large amount. The cauliflower trend is growing because it is being used in a variety of diets, from plant based to paleo.
I don't necessarily eat cauliflower rice because I need a low-carb diet, but simply because it tastes better that way. The slightly seared cauliflower gives the dish a slightly nutty taste that usually goes very well with all recipes. By the way, it's much faster to cook than normal rice.
Of course, you can also steam the cauliflower rice instead of frying it. This gives you even more vitamins that would otherwise be destroyed by the heat. But to be honest, I try to save my time here and just fry it quickly. I also love it to create those roasted aromas during that frying process. That significantly improves the taste.
This Cauliflower rice stir fry can pair with about anything.
For me, It gives a more rich taste when you add some garden-grown peas, earthy mushrooms and flavor-packed dried tomatoes from Italy. Just use this recipe as a base and match it with other ingredients of your choice throughout a healthy week!
